Expert group presents report on options for responsible innovation

A European Commission expert group presented its view on the options to strenghten RRI in Europe. The group analyses the options on the table but avoided the discussion on how to address and define strategies for societal desirable outcomes of innovation, as I proposed.( see my pages on definition and implementation of RRI). The link to ethics is made comparatively stronger, than my options for knowledge assessment procedures and the preference to move to new paradims for innovation policy.

The international project PROGRESS, funded under FP7, will however, take the line of RRI to drive innovation towards societal desirability and will look at a strategy to foster the convergence of regional innovations at the global level. This promissing project is about to kick off:

Dr. Dr.phil. RENE VON SCHOMBERG is a philosopher and a STS specialist. He is currently Guest Professor at the Technical University of Darmstadt. He holds Ph.D's from the University of Twente (NL) (Science and Technology Studies) and J.W.Goethe University in Frankfurt (Philosophy). He has been a European Union Fellow at George Mason University, USA in 2007 and has been with the European Commission since 1998, where he is now leading a team on Open Science. He is author/co-editor of 14 books, and establishing a global resource on Responsible Innovation. In july 2019, the 'International Handbook on Responsible Innovation.
